Monday Night Football- AFC North Duel between the Ravens and Browns

January 19 2010   Leave a Comment   Tags: , , , , , , ,

After getting swept by the Bengals last week, the Ravens look to bounce back in Cleveland Browns Stadium- the slums of the AFC North. Can the Browns prevent a beatdown from their division rivals with Brady Quinn under center? Let’s break down the matchup.  Ravens on OffenseThe Ravens never got it going in their loss to Cincy last week. Besides putting up only 7 points, they went 1 of 10 on 3rd down and had the ball for just 20 minutes. Moreover, Joe Flacco went 18-32 with 2 picks. But there’s good news; the best cure for a struggling young QB is to play the Browns, who gave up 31 points to Aaron Rodgers’ Packers and 30 to Jay Cutler’s Bears. Last week, Ray Rice was Baltimore’s leading receiver, which cannot happen in a Ravens offense that’s been pass-heavy this year. Flacco needs to get Derrick Mason and Todd Heap back in the mix. On another note, the Ravens have had the most success when they commit to the ground game. There’s no reason why Ray Rice shouldn’t get 20 touches against a Cleveland D that allows 170. 5 rushing yards a game. On the other side, the Browns’ LB corpse can hold its own. Led by leading tackler D’Qwell Jackson and Kamerion Wimbley (who has 5 sacks), the Browns can cause some commotion if they play with a reckless abandonment. Browns on OffenseSo Brady Quinn gets the nod, but how much can he help a team that has 5 offensive touchdowns this season? Quinn will not be heroic by any means, but he gives the Browns a better chance because he is more accurate and turns the ball over less. Plus, Quinn showed he has big-game ability when he torched the Giants last year on Monday Night Football. But whether it’s Quinn or Derek Anderson taking snaps, the Browns have put up just under 10 points and 221 yards per game and the O-line has given up 19 sacks. And although Cleveland won’t admit it, they could really use a big-play receiver like Braylon Edwards to save their league-worst passing attack. Rookie Mohamed Massaquoi shows flashes but needs to be more consistent if the Browns intend to threaten a secondary led by Ed Reed. As for the run, Cleveland can only hope for Jamal Lewis to stick it to his former team one last time before he throws in the towel. But unless Lewis suddenly returns to Pro Bowl form, Baltimore should have no problem stopping the run. Last Week, Cedric Benson ran all over the Ravens, and Ray Lewis took it personal. Look for his emotions to spread to the rest of his teammates on defense. The Browns can make it a game if they loosen up and play with the purpose of wrecking a team with playoff hopes. But in the end, Baltimore will grind it out in classic Raven fashion- controlling the pace offensively and keeping the Browns in lockdown mode. PredictionBaltimore 34 Cleveland 10

Online NFL Betting - Ravens stunned by Bennett’s retirement

January 17 2010   Leave a Comment   Tags: , , , , ,

The Ravens suffered another blow at their thin wide receiver position when Drew Bennett announced his retirement Sunday night.

“After returning home from Baltimore this weekend, a previous knee injury flared up, making me realize that I am unable to play another NFL Betting Season,” Bennett said in a statement through his agent, Steve Caric.

Bennett, who was signed Friday as a replacement for Derrick Mason, stunned the Baltimore Ravens with his retirement announcement and leaves the Ravens in the market for a veteran receiver once again. They have only two wide receivers on their roster that caught a pass for them last year.

“The Ravens are a first-class organization that I was truly excited to join. After an offseason of workouts and rehab I thought I was ready to play again, but it became apparent over this weekend that while my mind is willing, my body will not be able to make it through another NFL season. I have been blessed to have the opportunity to play in the NFL for as long as I have, but it is time for me to move on to the next chapter in my life. ”

The 30-year-old Bennett apologized to the Ravens organization for the decision.

The 30-year-old Bennett was a tall, possession receiver who was a hit in Tennessee. Though undrafted, Bennett spent eight seasons in the NFL and caught 307 passes during his career for 4,412 yards and 28 touchdowns. He spent his first six seasons with the Titans. He signed a six-year, $30 million deal with the Rams but was released after two unproductive seasons.

Colts move to 10-0 with 17-15 win over Ravens

Middle linebacker Gary Brackett intercepted a Joe Flacco pass at the Indianapolis Colts 17-yard line with 2:42 to play Sunday to preserve the Colts’ 17-15 victory over the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium. Matt Stover put the Indianapolis Colts (10-0) ahead to stay with a 25-yard field goal with 7:02 to play. Stover played for the Ravens (5-5) the first 13 years of their existence but was not signed by the club after the 2008 season. He signed with the Colts on Oct. 14 to handle placekicking duties while Adam Vinatieri recovers from knee surgery and sent the sellout crowd of 71,320 home disappointed. The victory was the Colts’ 19th in succession in regular-season games. New England holds the NFL record with 21, 2006-08. Colts quarterback Peyton Manning completed 21-of-31 passes for 299 yards, one short of his ninth 300-yard game of the season. Manning threw one touchdown pass with two interceptions. Wide receiver Pierre Garcon caught six passes for 108 yards and wide receiver Reggie Wayne had six receptions for 88 yards. Billy Cundiff, a free agent signed earlier this week, tied a Ravens club record by kicking five field goals, but missed once, from 30 yards. The Colts had three turnovers, including a fumble by tight end Tom Santi at the Baltimore 1. Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco completed 23-of-35 passes for 256 yards but couldn’t get the Ravens into the end zone. Wide receiver Derrick Mason caught nine passes for 142 yards. The Colts held a 14-12 lead at halftime. Two of Cundiff’s four field goals over the first 30 minutes were set up by Manning interceptions. The Colts scored on a 3-yard pass from Manning to tight end Dallas Clark, a touchdown that was set up by wide receiver Pierre Garcon’s 66-yard reception, and on a 5-yard run by Joseph Addai. Clark’s touchdown was the 321st catch of his seven-year career. It moved him past Pro Football Hall of Fame member John Mackey on the club career list for receptions by a tight end.

Ravens Blank Hapless Browns: NFL Betting Picks

January 14 2010   Leave a Comment   Tags: , , , , ,

In NFL Betting Picks ,the Baltimore Ravens were inefficient, unproductive and disorganized.

In 17 seconds, they changed all that.

Ray Rice scored on a 13-yard run and safety Dawan Landry returned an interception of Brady Quinn 48 yards for a touchdown on Cleveland’s next play as the Ravens overcame a horrendous start for a 16-0 win over the hapless Browns on Monday night.

The Ravens (5-4) didn’t score in the opening half, when they used up their three timeouts in the first 6:15, committed silly penalties, converted just one third down and actually made the Browns (1-8) look respectable.

But on Baltimore’s first possession of the second half, quarterback Joe Flacco connected on a 41-yard pass to Derrick Mason, who spun out of cornerback Brandon McDonald’s tackle and raced down the sideline to the Cleveland 13. Rice took it in from there to make it 7-0.

On the next snap, Quinn, making his first start since being pulled 10 quarters into the season by Cleveland coach Eric Mangini, threw high and wide to tight end Robert Royal and the ball bounced to Landry, who scampered in untouched to make it 13-0.

The Ravens missed the extra point, but that hardly mattered against a Cleveland offense that has scored only five offensive TDs in its past 15 games and didn’t cross the Baltimore 45-yard line.

It was Baltimore’s first shutout since Nov. 26, 2006, and it came at the perfect time for the Ravens, who had dropped four of five and were in danger of falling too far behind Cincinnati and Pittsburgh in the AFC North.

Instead, they feasted on Quinn, who was sacked four times, hurried countless more and finished just 13 of 31 for 99 yards and two picks. Mangini switched to the former first-round pick after Derek Anderson went 1-4 and posted the NFL’s lowest quarterback rating since replacing Quinn at halftime of a 34-3 loss to the Ravens on Sept. 27.

But Peyton Manning under center couldn’t help this bunch of Browns, who managed just 74 yards after halftime.

Cleveland had the ball 13 times. The Browns punted nine, threw two interceptions and ran out the clock to end the league’s first scoreless opening half this season. The game ended with Quinn throwing short to Cribbs, who was drilled by Ravens defensive end Dwan Edwards as the clock expired.

Cribbs laid motionless in the middle of the field for several minutes before he was taken off the field on a cart.

He was taken to a local hospital for further tests. Mangini said Cribbs had movement and feeling in all parts of his body when he left the stadium.

A planned protest by Cleveland fans to stay out of their seats for the opening kickoff never materialized. However, the stadium was nearly empty early in the fourth quarter, a symbol of disgust that may resonate with owner Randy Lerner as he evaluates Mangini’s first season in Cleveland.

Following Landry’s TD, the Ravens picked off Quinn again as cornerback Chris Carr hauled in a ball that went off wide receiver Mike Furrey’s hands. On the return, Quinn took out Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs with a questionable chop block that drew a 15-yard penalty and may lead to a fine.

Suggs limped to the locker room for more tests on what the team said was a sprained knee.

During pregame warmups, Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis reached down, picked up a hunk of torn-up turf and shoved it into his mouth. As he munched on the grass, Lewis told a nearby Baltimore official, “That’s mine. ” If the Ravens thought they could intimidate the Browns, they were mistaken.

Cleveland’s defense, which had two weeks to game plan for Baltimore, showed Flacco some new looks and held the Ravens scoreless in the first half.

For the Browns, this was progress.

For the Ravens, this was embarrassing.

Whatever coach Jim Harbaugh said at halftime worked.

Baltimore was in self-destructive mode from the outset.

Harbaugh lost an instant-replay challenge on the first play from scrimmage, costing him a timeout. Baltimore then had to burn its other two timeouts before seven minutes had expired as the Ravens’ offense appeared disorganized and was late coming out of the huddle.

Despite the sloppiness, the Ravens drove to the Cleveland 18, but Steve Hauschka was wide left with a 36-yard field goal attempt. He later atoned with a 44-yarder to make it 16-0.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens was estalished in 1996 when Art Modell, then owner of the Cleveland Browns, announced his intention to relocate his team from Cleveland to Baltimore. The controversy ended when representatives of Cleveland and the NFL reached a settlement on February 8, 1996. The agreement stipulated that the Browns’ name, colors, uniform design and franchise records would remain in Cleveland. The franchise history included Browns club records and connections with Pro Football Hall of Fame players. A new team to begin play in 1999 would be regarded as the “reactivated” Cleveland Browns. Modell’s Baltimore team, while retaining all current player contracts, would officially be the expansion team, a “new franchise. ” Not all players, staff or front office would make the the move to Baltimore, however. The home stadium for the Ravens first two seasons was Baltimore’s Memorial Stadium - the former home field of the Baltimore Colts. The Ravens moved to their own new stadium at Camden Yards in 1998. Raven Stadium would subsequently wear the names PSI Net Stadium and eventually at M&T Bank Stadium, their current home stadium. The 2000 season saw the Ravens defense, led by defensive coordinator Marvin Lewis. It was develop into a rock-solid unit that emerged as one of the most formidable defenses in NFL history. The Ravens defense set a new NFL record in holding opposing teams to 165 total points. The team overshadowed the mark set previously by the 1986 Chicago Bears of 187 points for a 16 game season. Linebacker Ray Lewis was named Defensive Player of the Year and, with two of his defensive teammates, Sam Adams and Rod Woodson, made the Pro Bowl. Baltimore went for Super Bowl XXXV at Tampa against the New York Giants, cruising to a 34–7 win for their first championship in franchise history. The Ravens recorded four sacks and forced five turnovers, one of which was a Kerry Collins interception returned for a touchdown by Duane Starks. The Giants’ only score was a Ron Dixon kickoff return for another touchdown (after Starks’ interception return); however, Baltimore immediately countered with a TD return by Jermaine Lewis. The Ravens became only the third wild card team to win a Super Bowl championship. The interception return for a touchdown, followed by two kick return TDs, marked the quickest time in Super Bowl history that three touchdowns had been scored.

2008 - 2009 Baltimore Ravens season

The Baltimore Ravens are a professional American football team based in Baltimore, Maryland. They compete in the AFC North Division of the American Football Conference in the National Football League. The team that players all wear Baltimore Raven jerseys is a brave team. I will tell you something about 2008 - 2009 Baltimore Ravens season.

With rookies at head coach John Harbaugh and quarterback, the Ravens entered the 2008 campaign with lots of uncertainty. After a season-opening home victory over the Bengals, their Week 2 match at the Houston Texans was postponed until two months later because of Hurricane Ike, forcing the Ravens to play for what would eventually be eighteen straight weeks. Its record would drop to 2-3 after three straight losses - in overtime at Pittsburgh, a home heartbreaker versus Tennessee and a blowout in Indianapolis. A win at Miami, redemption for what happened late in the previous season, sparked a four-game winning streak.

After a road loss to the defending Super Bowl Champion Giants in Week 11, the Ravens beat Philadelphia at home, powered by Ed Reed breaking his own NFL record for longest interception for a touchdown when he returned one 108 yards against Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb. The previous record was 106 yards in 2004. In Week 16, the Ravens bounced back from a frustrating home loss to the Steelers that were decided by a highly controversial call from officials by humbling the team that players all wear Dallas Cowboy jerseys 33-24 in the final game at Texas Stadium behind Le’Ron McClain and Willis McGahee combining for 249 rushing yards and two touchdowns. McGahee broke a 77-yard run for a touchdown, a stadium record which would last until McClain, on the very first offensive play of the Ravens’ next possession, secured the victory with an 82-yard touchdown run of his own. Baltimore closed out the regular season at home by defeating the Jaguars to clinch the sixth seed in the AFC playoffs.

On the strength of two more Ed Reed interceptions, one resulting in a touchdown, the Ravens began its postseason run by winning a rematch over Miami 27-9 at Dolphin Stadium on January 4, 2009 in a wildcard game. Six days later, they advanced to the AFC Championship Game by avenging a Week 5 loss to the Titans 13-10 at LP Field on a Matt Stover field goal within the last two minutes of regulation. Even though they trailed by only two points with about four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Ravens fell one victory short of Super Bowl XLIII by losing to the Steelers 23-14 at Heinz Field on January 18, 2009.

The Ravens held the 26th pick in the 2009 NFL draft. The Ravens selected Michael Other in the first round of the NFL Draft. In the season opener, the offense continued its improvements from the year before as it scored 38 points and accounted for over 500 yards in a 38-24 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Week 2 of the NFL 2009 Season, The Ravens defeated the San Diego Chargers 31-26.

I am sure the Baltimore Ravens will have a beautiful future. I hope the team gets success in 2010 season. I will buy the team football jerseys and ticks to cheer for it.

Baltimore Ravens Coach’S Promotion

December 18 2009   Leave a Comment   Tags: , , ,

The National Football League team Baltimore Ravens has promoted Greg Mattison to the defensive coordinator. This is a move that is designed to maintain continuity on the section that excelled under Rex Ryan.

Mattison was hired by the Baltimore’s as a linebackers coach last February. Having only one year of experience in the NFL, the 59 year old Mattison was the defensive coordinator at Notre Dame, Florida and Michigan.

The Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh praised Mattison saying that Greg is a person that he has full trust and belief in not only for his track record. I have full trust and belief in, and not just because of his track record, but also the good job he did as the linebackers. Harbaugh added that Greg has established himself as among the best coaches in the NFL and that the players can attest to that thought.

Greg Mattison will be replacing Rex Ryan, who had served as the Ravens defensive coordinator for four seasons before leaving to take over as head coach of the New York Jets.

Mattison will take over the high standard defense that earned them the rank of the second best defense in the NFL; it also helped the Ravens to advance to the AFC championship, with the help of outstanding linebackers like Bart Scott, Terrell Suggs and Ray Lewis.

Head coach Harbaugh praised the former defensive coach Rex, saying that he did a good job and that he brought out the most out of his players. He added that he has belief that Greg has the same qualities as a coach and he believes that he will compliment the departed Rex. Mattison says that he intends to employ the same tactics (pressure packed defense) that Rex had applied as it was so successful.

On his acceptance speech, Mattison said that he strongly believes that for a defense to be successful they should be aggressive and also to be an attacking defense.

Harbaugh had considered going outside the team to look for Rex’s replacement but he later resorted to inside men who had worked under Rex like Mattison, Vic Fangio, Clarence Brooks and Chuck Pagano, finally settling for Mattison.

In further promotions; Fangio was promoted to be the linebackers coach, and the special team’s coordinator Jerry Rosburg was promoted to the post of the assistant head coach.

Greg Mattison’s coaching career started in 1971 at the high school level, this is before he served as the assistant at Cornell, Northwestern and Illinois. Harbaugh and Mattison met as the now head coach was serving a six-year contract at Western Michigan from 1981 to 1986.

Mattison then was in the Navy for two years, this was later followed by stays at Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Michigan and Florida.

All the Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinators have gone ahead to become head coaches for instance Mike Nolan, Marvin Lewis and Rex Ryan, this has been so since the Ravens came from Cleveland to Baltimore before the season of 1996.

Watch Baltimore Ravens NFL Games Live Streaming Online

Larry lives on a ranch in Montana but is an avid Baltimore Ravens fan. He never misses a game. Larry doesn’t fly back east or follow the team on the road. Larry watches NFL games online. He’s set up to get live streaming video of his cherished Ravens so he never misses a game. This ex-city slicker told me he’s even watched games over the Internet out by the corral with his favorite horse.

This way, he was able to watch former Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith lead Baltimore during a classic two-minute drill scoring drive when there was only 1:12 left in the second quarter. Smith nailed a perfect 19-yard pass into the arms of wideout Justin Harper to end the first half. Smith had taken the reins in the second after starter Joe Flacco completed 9-of-15 for 103 yards leading the team to two first-quarter field goals from Kicker Steve Hauschka.

Did you catch the game? I did on my computer.

Hey, even if the Ravens aren’t your favorite team, you can watch NFL games on your PC, also. All you need to do is download a software program that will give you access to practically any game televised you would like to watch. But, it doesn’t end there. The software allows you to view additional sports as well as watch TV movies, check out the weather, entertainment and business news, plus obtain great children programming as well.

All you need is what Larry has – a Windows operating system and a DSL or cable Internet connection. That’s it!  You don’t need the most up-to-date operating system. As long as it is Windows, you will be in business. Imagine that – never missing a game ever again!

So, you Ravens fans out there will never complain about missing a Flacco TD pass again when you can catch every game right on your own computer.
